Henrietta Lacks was an African American woman whose cancer cells were taken without her consent in 1951, leading to the immortal HeLa cell line that contributed to numerous medical breakthroughs. Her story raised significant ethical issues regarding consent, medical research, and the exploitation of marginalized individuals.
